The wire rope is supplied with wire rope clips and thimbles not assembled. To create your loop and carry out suspension or guying safely, assembly rules must be observed.
Installing Ø8 wire rope clips on a cable
For a Ø8 mm U-bolt wire rope clip, the standard requires 4 wire rope clips per loop. For suspension or guying, the turnbuckle must have a diameter twice that of the wire rope. When forming your loop to enclose the thimble, you will obtain a dead end and a live end (see illustration).
The U-bolt must never crush the live end of the wire rope but must always be positioned on the dead end. The first wire rope clip must be installed as close as possible to the thimble, and the following clips must be spaced 30 to 60 millimetres apart for a Ø8 mm wire rope.
The bolts of the wire rope clips must be tightened to a torque of 6 Nm.
Assembly tips and recommendations
All wire rope clips must be installed in the same direction. The operating temperature range for this type of assembly is between -20°C and +50°C.
This type of assembly must never be used for lifting. If lifting or pulling is required, your sling must be fitted with swaged ferrules instead of U-bolt clips.
To avoid installation errors, here is a technical reminder: “nuts on the long end”, the long end being the live end—never clamp the live end of the wire rope with the U-bolt, otherwise the assembly will be incorrect.
